Watch the entire Upholstery process from start to finish
We start with
your existing
piece
We tear each
piece down to
the frame in
order to check
the springs,
webbing,
padding and
structure.
Any needed
repairs are
taken care of
at this point.
All springs are
checked
thoroughly and
secured with
an eight-way
tie.
The edge roll
is hand sewn
into place
The edge roll
is important in
order to keep
your cushion
in place
The front band and
deck are precisely
measured, cut
and sewn together
before being hand
sewn and stapled
into place
The deck and front
band are finished.
The arms, back,
cushions, and skirt
are all measured
and matched from
this piece.
We inspect and use
as much of the
existing padding as
is possible, adding to
or replacing as
necessary.
Next to be
upholstered
are the
in-arms.
Proper padding is
applied for each
arm making sure
the right and left
match in every way
After the fabric is
measured, cut and
sewn for the
right and left
in-arms it must
be upholstered
onto each arm.
Careful attention
is given to each
arm in order to
make them match.
The fabric is pulled
and stapled into
place in order to
make a smooth,
wrinkle-free, well
fitted arm.
Next comes
the out-back
The fabric must be
pulled and adjusted
just right to match
the pattern to what
is already in the
deck and the arms.
At this point the
seamstress can
measure and
match the fabric
to start the seat
cushions.
We use the old
cushions,
measurements and
the pattern in the
deck, back and
arms in order to
make the best fit
possible
Every cushion
is custom fit
for each piece
of furniture.
We can use existing
foam if it is still in
good shape or we
custom cut new
foam and wrap it in
Dacron before
stuffing it into the
new cushions.
Stuffing the cushions
can be difficult. It
takes some patience
and strength. It helps
to wrap the foam in
the thin layer of
plastic
We then use
the shop
vacuum to get
compress the
foam
temporarily
Now the foam
can be easily
slipped into
the cushion
Some times it takes
some extra work to
make the foam fit
exactly where it is
supposed to in the
cushion and look
just right
Once the center
cushion is sewn
and stuffed we
check for fit and
match of fabric
before making the
other cushions.
Looking good!
But, not
finished yet.
While the cushions
are being sewn,
the out-arms and
out-back can be put
on. The out-arms
are prepared for
recovering with
extra fabric or
cardboard to fill in
the void. This is
then covered with
Dacron for padding
and a softer look.
The out-arms
can then be
upholstered.
Now the
out-back
can be
upholstered.
The skirt can be
stapled on only
after a lot more
measuring,
matching, cutting,
and sewing.
One of the last things
to finish the
upholstery of the
piece is to cover the
bottom with a piece
of light weight fabric.
We use a black
fabric called
cambric.
All ready for
back cushions!
Better than
new and just
right for your
home.
